Honor Play 80 Pro 5G Debuts with Snapdragon Chip, IP65 Rating & 7000mAh Battery

Honor Play 80 Pro is a budget 5G phone that just landed in China today. There’s a Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 chip here and, believe it or not, a “TFT” screen. Odd combination aside, this newcomer has a huge battery, and they went the extra mile to get a drop safety certification for it.

The screen looked disappointing at first. There was no mention of a high refresh rate on the spec sheet. We assumed it’s a 60Hz TFT panel. But scroll down to the bottom of the phone’s overview page, and you’ll find that it’s actually clocked at 120Hz.

But the screen is still a TFT panel. So it might have worse viewing angles and colors. On top of that, it is just a 720 HD+ screen. The size is decent at 6.8 inches. There’s a punch hole crop on the panel where a 5MP selfie camera is installed. The rest of the phone is not too shabby if you can overlook the screen.

The Honor new budget model is 8.24mm thick, by the way. Yet the company fitted a 7,000 mAh cell inside the Honor Play 80 Pro. This handset will supposedly last 23 hours on a single charge, if you only stream short clips. And there’s also 45W charging speed here. So you have fast power delivery.

A Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 chip pulls the load here. NanoReview showed that it’s a 2.3GHz platform, and the iGPU is an Adreno 619. The AnTuTu average scores are close to 623K. Anyway, that’s not what the Honor Play 80 Pro is known for; it’s actually the durability.

It’s splashproof (IP65). They did a 24-hour sprinkle/rain test on it. There’s Wet Hand Touch support among the features. SGS gave it a Gold 5-star drop and anti-crush certification. The phone doesn’t have a headphone jack. Wired headphones are plugged into the Type C port.

Honor Play 80 Pro takes the storage and RAM all the way up to 12GB/256GB. But the OS is the older Android 15 with MagicOS 9. Its fingerprint reader is on the side. The rear camera is a 50MP shooter that can do 1080p videos. The base Honor Play 80 Pro has 6GB+256GB storage, and it costs CNY 1,899 (~$275) (~PKR 77,000).
