Honor Magic 9 Pro Max is a flagship-tier Android with the most decked-out camera setup the company has ever put on a phone. The newcomer has a Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chip, which is the fastest SoC on the platform right now. And a massive battery provides backup to the Magic 9 Pro Max.
It has everything a power user would need, though the company has positioned this handset more as a professional video camera. They’ve teamed up with ARRI again to make this happen. The hardware is cherry-picked by Honor, and ARRI dialed in the photo and video optimization for the Magic 9 Pro Max.
The rear camera stack is made up of a dual 200MP camera system. One of them is the main sensor at f/1.6 aperture on a 1/1.28” sensor. The OIS on the main camera is as close as you get to a gimbal. It’s CIPA 8.0 certified, by the way.
That main lens is right next to a periscope telephoto 200MP camera that has an 85mm lens by default. And a separate telephoto converter kit would push the lens to 500mm. The sensor itself is a 1/1.4” type unit, so it’s almost as big as the main snapper. These aren’t the only two cameras, by the way.
The rear camera does include a 50MP Ultrawide 12mm lens, and its FoV is massive. The reason they insist on calling the Magic 9 Pro Max a camera phone is their ARRI LogC3 Curve recording and cinematic camera filters. They even sell an official camera rig cage for this Honor flagship new mobile so you can attach all your accessories to it.
The camera is only half the story. The newcomer’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chip does the heavy lifting. Magic 9 Pro Max actually puts a big 120Hz 6.8” AMOLED screen on the front, and it has a pill cutout where they put a ToF and 55MP camera sensor. The screen itself is a near-2K display with a 10,000nits recorded peak brightness in HDR video playback.
Magic 9 Pro Max’s default OS is Android 17 with a new Magic OS 11 ROM made by Honor. It has WiFi 7 and amplified dual speakers. The battery is 8800mAh. 100W wired and 80W wireless charging refuel this massive Si/C cell. The newcomer’s official base price is CNY 6,499 (~PKR 268,000), and this doesn’t include the optional accessories. They are sold separately.
