It’s not exactly a flagship phone, but it does mimic one. You must be having a deja vu right now, as we did. This is actually a familiar design from the Poco F9 series. Xiaomi Poco X8s cuts back on a few features and puts all the hardware into a smaller build. The phone debuted in the global markets today. All the specs are listed on the public site.
This phone has a smaller chassis. If the Poco F9 series had a vanilla version, it would’ve looked exactly like this. But the newcomer is released in an entirely separate class. Poco X8s has a compact build with a 6.35” AMOLED and 1.5K resolution. And the refresh rate is 120Hz.
It’s actually an LTPO AMOLED, so it’s not an ordinary screen. That’s a variable 1-120Hz refresh rate, which saves a ton of battery. Again, this is something you would normally have on a flagship. The bezels are shaved to just 1.18mm, and the peak brightness goes all the way up to 3500 nits (peak).
They’ve put a Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 chip on it, which is the only thing keeping it from flagship status. Sadly, this is strictly a midrange SoC, which is built around a 2.8GHz CPU and Adreno 722 GPU. It does unlock UFS 2.2 storage and LPDDR4x RAM, and in this case, the X8s got 512GB flash and 12Gigs of memory. 50MP (OIS) Light Fusion 800 sensor is installed under the main lens on the tri-camera deco. There’s a 50MP telephoto unit right next to it, and the third lens is an 8MP ultrawide. Video calls and selfies are taken from the front 20MP camera, by the way.
The battery here is actually just as big as the Poco F9 Pro. They’ve put a 6330mAh Si/C cell on the Poco X8s, and it recovers the fastest over PD 3.0 100W wired input. Poco calls it HyperCharge. There’s no wireless charging here, but it does have 22.5W reverse wired output.
The fingerprint is Ultrasonic, on-screen. And there’s WiFi 6E support here. IP68 waterproof rating gives it full immunity to water immersion. Dual speakers fire from the top and bottom, and you get an IR blaster. 8/256GB base Poco X8s option has an MSRP of $399 (~PKR 110,000).
