Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 to Feature Samsung's Ultra-thin Glass; Display & Launch Details Leaked

Xiaomi is working on the next-generation Mi Mix Fold (which debuted in Spring this year.) The upcoming Mi Mix Fold 2 has popped up in product certifications already. And we’re now hearing that Samsung is designing and manufacturing the flexible glass for the Mi Mix Fold 2.

Reports coming out of China suggest that Xiaomi is sourcing the flexible glass for the new Mi Mix Fold 2 from Samsung. The Korean titan is the industry leader in commercializing the so-called ‘Ultra-thin Glass.’

This UTG panel is only 0.03mm thick and allows the display to fold in on itself. Oppo’s Find N adopts the same panel. Samsung’s proprietary material engineering keeps it durable without compromising durability. Of course, ultra-thin Glass isn’t the only option for folding screens, but the traditional polyimide panels are prone to breaks and scratches.

Rumor has it that the Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold 2 rocks an 8.1” OLED as its main display. In contrast to the sub-7.5” screens on the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and the Find N, the Mix Fold 2 matches up with the dimensions of a modern tablet.

The new foldable is expected to join the Xiaomi price catalog in the first half of 2022. Samsung is supplying the LTPO panels, which intelligently can step up the refresh rate between 1 and 120Hz. These panels conserve power and make the visual experience smoother. Also, note that Xiaomi is re-engineering the hinge inside Mix Fold 2.

Most importantly, however, Xiaomi is going to the global market with the Mix Fold 2. The original Mi Mix Fold was China-exclusive. Reports put its release date in mid-2022.
