Vivo’s naming scheme is perhaps the most confusing of any BBK Group brand. Unless you follow their releases closely, it’s almost impossible to keep track. For example, Vivo dropped the Vivo Y76s in China. And the mid-range 5G phone was just re-released as Vivo Y74s 5G in the same market two weeks later (the ‘why’ is an enigma.)
Since it’s simply a renamed Y76s, The Y74s offers nothing new in terms of design or specs. The engine inside the new sibling of the Vivo mobile Y21 is the MediaTek Dimensity 810. It’s a highly power-efficient chip design. 8GB of memory covers multitasking. You can pick from 128GB and 256GB storage. Vivo’s re-imagined OriginOS powers this hardware.
For the design, Vivo picked a recycled look. The Vivo Y74s has a notched, bezel-heavy display. It’s a 6.58” IPS LCD, featuring a 1080P resolution, poor contrast ratio, and 180Hz touch sampling rate. The fingerprint scanner is merged with the concave power button (a subtle but welcome design choice.)
The latest 5G Vivo mobile weighs 175g. And its chassis is 7.79mm thick. Embedded in it is a 3.5mm audio jack and a USB-C port. Vivo Y74s also comes in Galaxy Blue, Starry Night Black, and Star Diamond finishes.
Two lenses and an LED flash are embedded inside the phone’s accented camera plate. It’s a duo of 50MP wide and 2MP macro sensors. The 8MP front camera is equally unremarkable.
Lastly, everything runs on a 4100 mAh battery and powerful 44W supercharging. Storage is expandable up to 1TB. Vivo Y74s starts at CNY 2,300 (~ Rs. 63,000.)
