Vivo S5 is all set to be unveiled on November 14 in China

Ever since the mysterious diamond-shaped-camera bearing smartphone was sighted in the hands of Vivo’s brand ambassador for the S-line up – Cai Xukun, there has been a lot of hype surrounding this mystery phone. This purported smartphone was later confirmed by Vivo to be the successor to this year’s Vivo S1, dubbed the Vivo S5.

Following the snapshot for the promo video and this official confirmation, we have been waiting for the specs to surface on TENNA listings. Unfortunately, there has still been no word on the specs or design of the phone, but Vivo has announced the launch date for this upcoming camera-centric model. As per the report, Vivo will be taking the wraps of the S5 on November 14, at a launch event in Hangzhou, China. And we expect the phone to hit other Asian markets in the weeks that follow.

The recently released promo ad doesn’t offer a peek into the specs but hints that the phone will be debuting with some fresh and vibrant hues, including the ‘blue-to-pink’ gradient, spotted in the hands of the aforementioned model. Speaking of which, the brand ambassador is expected to make an appearance at the launch event.

While the details are scarce, we do know that the phone will be sporting a quad-camera setup arranged in a diamond shape (think something similar to Nokia’s 9 PureView but in a diamond-shaped module). You can’t see a fingerprint reader on the back, which leads us to believe that the phone would likely feature an in-display sensor. On the top, you can make out a 3.5 mm audio jack. Beyond these details, we know virtually nothing about the hardware or design of this upcoming phone.

Speculations suggest that since its predecessors were both camera-centric devices, the phone will likely come with a 64-megapixel primary sensor and a 32-megapixel front-facing selfie camera. The one-of-its-kind camera setup certainly appears to support this claim, but we’ll have to wait until the raw spec sheet pops up online.
