Tecno Phantom Ultimate G Fold “Concept” Unveiled with World’s Thinnest Tri-Fold Design

After Huawei’s Mate XT Ultimate Tri-Fold, Samsung and Tecno are taking a lot of interest in this niche category. We already know about Samsung’s plan to launch a similar-looking device this year. But now, Tecno has also stepped up and unveiled its own “Phantom Ultimate G Fold” concept to level the playing field.

You can find an early preview of this device on Tecno’s official YouTube Channel. As we saw in the previous leaks and now in the press release, the Phantom Ultimate G Fold does not bend in the same way as the Huawei Mate XT did. In fact, it has a completely different inward-folding hinge mechanism.

The hint’s in the name — the phone’s 9.94” screen bends in a “G” shape with dual hinges and two flaps folding inwards. Usually, designs with three slices fold in a Z pattern, which exposes the screen to impact damage, just like the Huawei Mate XT. But Tencno’s engineering team has come up with something entirely new.

Instead of making the first or third slice of the Tecno new Fold model the motherboard and camera carrier, Tecno chose the middle piece to house all the circuitry and the triple camera module. This design comes with its own set of challenges, though it seems more sustainable for the long run.

Let’s talk numbers for a minute. Tecno claims that the Phantom Ultimate G Fold is the world’s thinnest tri-folding device at only 3.49mm per slice. That’s roughly 11.49mm total thickness in the folded state. Apparently, this slim design is the combination of a 0.3mm titan fibre backplate and a 2000MPa ultra-high-strength steel hinge.

It’s a flagship model, so it carries the ultimate chip. The design shows three cameras on the back and a cover display on the side. The tri-fold could also offer up to a 5000mAh battery, just like Huawei. These numbers claim big innovations on Tecno’s part, but it’s still a concept device at the end of the day.

It shows what you can expect from Tecno down the line, but the actual consumer product is not on the horizon yet. The Phantom Ultimate G Fold will make its first stage appearance at the MWC 2026, as this has been officially confirmed by Tecno. Until that day, we’ll keep an eye on this device for more leaks and updates. Stick around if you don’t want to miss anything.
