The usual Galaxy Fold and Flip devices are coming in mid-2026. But there could be a third foldable in the lineup. They say it’s a wider version of the Galaxy Z Fold 8. We’ve only heard whispers about this newcomer until today. But there has been a major leak on the Samsung Galaxy Z Wide Fold. This is what we found.
The leak was originally in Chinese. We had to translate Digital Chat Station’s post. What we found is that the Z Wide Fold has an alleged 7.6” device. The size actually made their plans obvious. We assume Samsung wants a competitor that takes on the iPhone Fold one-on-one.
The wider fold design was actually adopted in the early days of this specific segment. Pixel Fold and Oppo Find N were the first ones with wider but smaller book-style chassis. Even Microsoft had a device called the Surface Duo. Apple is late to the race. But it’s starting exactly where these other brands began their foldable journey.
Anyway, the leaker has predicted that the Samsung Fold's new mobile will grab a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip. There’s a possibility that an Exynos 2600 2nm chip will be used, at least on the wider version. But Samsung will be far better off if it sticks to a Snapdragon chip. It is a sub $2000 phone, after all.
Another prediction was made for the Z Wide Fold battery. The Z Fold 7 is still capped at 4,400 mAh. They were able to squeeze more juice out of it with hardware options. But 8 hours of screen time is average on this device. This post says Galaxy Z Wide Fold is a 5000mAh foldable.
The wide version actually has the biggest battery we’ve seen on a single split foldable. Only the Galaxy Z TriFold has more capacity than this phone. Maybe the battery upgrade will turn the wide foldable into a full-day runner. That’s definitely not the case right now for the Z Fold 7.
Galaxy Z Wide Fold is more or less an experiment. The first launch will be an experimental wave to see if the Z Wide Fold sells well. They’ll probably scrap the whole project if it doesn’t sell well. It could share the same fate as the Galaxy S25 Edge. Keep watching the news for updates.
