Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra is being tested with One UI 9. We believe it’s on the 4th beta right now. And we are keeping track of each new feature they add to the device. A leaker noticed a new option in the Privacy Display menu that could make this feature much more useful to a specific privacy-conscious demographic.
Privacy Display can now obscure PiP apps. Basically, any app that can trigger picture-in-picture mode has access to Privacy Display, so a portion of the screen where PiP is active can only be seen from the front, not from the sides. It will make more sense with an example.
YouTube Premium has PiP mode. The video can be minimized to a smaller window when you swipe to the home screen, which is what we call picture-in-picture. Galaxy S26 Ultra, at least on the beta One UI 9, has the ability to detect PiP windows and put a privacy overlay on them.
The privacy display on Galaxy S26 Ultra can already hide a portion of the screen. This is used to hide text notifications or any field that requires you to type a password. The phone has per-pixel control over the privacy filter, so a PiP integration actually makes sense. They don’t need to change the hardware at all to make this work. All it needs is a software fix. YouTube or any PiP app will overlay Privacy Display on a small portion of the screen. The rest of the area will remain filter-free and bright with sharper visuals.
This could be a big boon to multitasking on the S26 Ultra, but only if it has a real-time implementation. It’s yet to be seen if the privacy filter moves with the PiP in real-time as you drag the window from place to place. This didn’t come up in the leak, but Galaxy S26 Ultra users on One UI 9 beta can certainly test it. Keep watching the news for more updates.
