Last year’s Samsung Galaxy A71 has been reviewed by the popular smartphone camera benchmarking site, DXOMARK. It recently made headlines after Huawei’s P40 Pro made it to the top of this publication’s rankings with a score of 128. Unsurprisingly, the mid-range Galaxy A71 doesn’t compare, but it doesn’t impress either (even for an upper-mid-range device).
If you recall, the Samsung A71 featured a quad-camera arrangement in an L-shaped layout. It includes a primary wide camera, an ultra-wide lens, and two dedicated cameras: one for macro photography and the other for depth sensing. This ensemble has bagged only 84 points.
The primary camera has a 64MP 1/7.2 sensor with a 0.8 µm individual pixel size. It works with a 12MP ultra-wide camera featuring a 12mm f/2.2 aperture. The macro camera utilizes a 5MP sensor that produces a 1.12µm pixel-size, and it works in tandem with the 25mm depth lens to deliver shots with depth of field or bokeh effect.
DXOMARK photography score maxes out at 89, and as per the source, the stills performance is comparable to other mid-rangers like the Galaxy A50, Nokia 7.2, or the Motorola One Zoom.
The Galaxy A71 accurately exposes most scenes but produces high contrast levels. The shots were detailed, with a wide dynamic range, and brighter shadows. One caveat, though, the images don’t create the right white balance and are blue-tinted.
Low-light shots with the Night Mode on, result in well-lit subjects and backgrounds. That said, the photos aren’t detailed and have chromatic noise.
With the Galaxy A71, you can shoot in 4K at 30fps, with the frames stabilized by gyroscope-based EIS. You can still spot the higher-than-average contrast and ringing artifacts in your shots. The phone scored just 74 points on its video benchmark. The handset is available in Pakistan bearing a Samsung price tag of 69,999/- Rs.
