Redmi hasn’t been as prolific as Oppo in introducing new devices, but this hiatus might soon be over once the upcoming Xiaomi Redmi 10X goes official. The model was first leaked through TENNA and 3C certifications as M2003J15SC. It has now been spotted on the China Telecom product database as Redmi 10X. The title remained unconfirmed until now (although XDA Developers flagged the name last month).
As this development reveals, the Redmi 10X would be the world’s first smartphone to debut with a yet-to-be-announced MediaTek Helio G85 platform. But given that its predecessor was a gaming-oriented chipset, it’s safe to assume that this upcoming processor will build upon that and will be available at affordable Xiaomi prices.
Glancing at the rest of the specifications sheet, the Redmi 10X 4G seems to have the makings of your standard 2020 lower-mid-range model. A 6.53-inch LCD display, featuring a punch-hole in its corner, serves as the front panel. It produces an FHD+ resolution at a shorter-than-typical 19.5:9 aspect ratio.
The overall build has a chunky profile, which is reflected in the slightly-heavy bezels, the width, and the weight. Go around the back to find a quad-camera in the middle of the rear-facing panel. The four lenses are horizontally stacked in two pill-shaped secondary housings, surrounded by a rectangular camera bump – a design choice borrowed from the recent Xiaomi Note 9 Series.
The main camera has a 48MP sensor behind it, but the exact aperture is a mystery as of yet. It’s combined with an 8MP (most likely a wide-angle shooter) + 2MP + 2MP ensemble. For capturing selfies, Redmi gives you a 13MP front-facing camera.
The shell comes in Sky Blue, Pine Morning Green, and Ice Fog White colors, and you can make out a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner that lives inside the camera housing.
In addition to the Helio G85 chipset, the phone is powered by a 5,020 mAh battery that supports 22.5W fast charging. Redmi has opted for 6GB of RAM and 128GB of native storage (expandable with a microSD card). The hardware, of course, runs on the latest MIUI 11, on top of Android 10.
The listing doesn’t comment on the launch or availability details, but the phone is expected to start at a Xiaomi price of CNY 1,499 or about 34,000 PKR without taxes.
