POCO M4 to Debut in February with 5G Connectivity, Ultra-wide Camera, and 90 Hz Display

The POCO M4 series debuted when the POCO M4 Pro 5G came out last November. The long-overdue vanilla POCO M4 was never teased or announced. However, its launch might be just around the corner because a reliable source just predicted a tentative launch timeline for the POCO M4.

Courtesy of MySmartPrice and Mukul Sharma, we learn that the Xiaomi POCO M4 hits the global market in February 2022. The exact date remains a mystery. But Mr. Sharma pointed out a few specs.

The highlight, of course, is the introduction of 5G to the budget M-series. POCO is upgrading the POCO M4 with 5G too. The chipset wasn’t specified, but it’s presumably a Dimensity series edition from MediaTek. Note that the POCO M4 Pro 5G features the Dimensity 810 5G at its heart.

The new Xiaomi POCO mobile M4 5G also adopts a triple-camera system — a wide-angle 64MP Omnivision CMOS sensor, an ultra-wide 8MP Sony sensor, and a 2MP low-res shooter to round the trio off. Last year’s M3 lacked an ultra-wide lens, settling instead for a second 2MP camera.

Another upgrade is the refresh rate on the display. The screen is an IPS LCD that now peaks at a smooth 90Hz. It’s not all good news, though. Because the POCO M4 5G ships with the previous-gen MIUI 12.5 x Android 11. We should learn more when benchmarks and other leaks surface in the coming weeks.
