Oppo A5i and A5i Pro debuted in the Philippines three months ago, both LTE versions. The company has now unveiled an Oppo A5i Pro 5G version in the Malaysian market that carries a Dimensity 6300 chip and a bigger 6000mAh cell. Here’s everything you should know about this newcomer.
The Pro 5G model doesn’t stray far from the original version when it comes to display. It’s built around a 120Hz 6.67” IPS screen that peaks at 1000 nits brightness. The resolution is standard 720p HD+, and the panel hides an 8MP selfie shooter on the punch hole cutout.
Since the 5G network demands a higher-end chip, the new Oppo A5i Pro gains a huge performance boost, using a Dimensity 6300 chip. For those unfamiliar with this platform, this is a 2.4GHz eight-core engine with a Mali-G57 MP2 integrated GPU.
The rear camera is quite ordinary, since it combines a run-of-the-mill 50MP Main unit with a 2MP monochrome sensor, likely designated as a depth mapper. Its lenses directly stick out of the flat rear panel. This triple pill design goes well with the Breeze Blue and Midnight Purple colors.
The Oppo new A model weighs around 195 grams on the scale. The A5i Pro’s thickness is close to 7.99mm. These numbers are impressive for a phone with a massive 6000mAh battery under the hood and 45W fast wired charging for backup. The handset brings a USB Type-C 2.0 interface to receive power.
Oppo A5i Pro has Gorilla Glass 7i on the front, which is rare in the entry-level class. In theory, the phone should survive minor falls and scratches up to Moh’s level 6. Oppo got it certified by SGS for MIL-STD-810H drop-safety rating. Also, you get an IP65 water/dustproof design on this phone.
The new SoC also upgrades the storage type to UFS 2.2. The RAM is LPDDR4X, which is quite common in this segment. The Oppo A5i Pro seems to have a single 8/256GB memory trim with a pretty modest price tag. The official cost in Malaysia is MYR 799 (~PKR 53,000).
