Vivo Y73s Goes Official with a MediaTek Dimensity Chipset; A Sleek, Light, Budget-friendly 5G Vivo

Apart from the Vivo V20 series Launch due today in Pakistan, the Chinese brand has been flooding the Chinese market with budget-friendly 5G phones this whole season, and the trend continues with the all-new Vivo Y73s. Not unlike Vivo’s other budget 5G models, the Y73s 5G is powered by MediaTek’s mid-range Dimensity silicon and has respectable specs to go with it. We’ll take a closer look at it.

The Vivo Y73s 5G made its debut in China but should soon be headed to the global market — perhaps under a different title, given Vivo’s typical naming antics. It’s the first Vivo to use the MediaTek Dimensity 720 processor. The chipset was announced earlier in summer this year, featuring a thin 7nm manufacturing process and an eight-core CPU clocked at 2GHz.

It’s paired with 8GB of memory and 128GB of non-expandable storage. A 4100 mAh battery with support for 18W fast charging powers this setup. The phone charges over a USB Type-C port and includes the increasingly-rare 3.5mm headphone jack.

The Vivo Y73s design is pretty cookie-cutter, though. You’re looking at a recycled look with a notch on the front and a camera plate on the back. The Y73s 5G seems to have a mirror-finished plastic build, painted in either Silver Moon or Black Mirror colorways. An aspect of this design that stands out, however, is the phone’s lightweight and slim footprint — 7.7mm and 171.3g. The Vivo V20 SE due today in Pakistan also weighs the same at 171 grams, has the same notched design, and a similar profile at 7.8 mm thickness.

The display on the Vivo Y73s is a 6.44” AMOLED panel that delivers an FHD+ resolution and a 90.1% screen-to-body ratio. An on-screen fingerprint scanner is embedded underneath this display. Inside the notch, we find a 16MP selfie camera. While three cameras are laid out in the camera bump on the back: a 48MP f/1.7 main camera, an 8MP wide-angle lens with a 120° Field-of-View, and a 2MP sensor designed for portrait shots.

This setup shoots 4K videos with electronic image stabilization, supports up to  10x zoom, and has a software-powered night mode. The Vivo Y73s 5G starts from roughly $299 (~Rs. 48,999).
