Samsung Galaxy A16 5G Picks Up One UI 7 Update with Now Bar & Security Fixes

Samsung has finally released the One UI 7.0 update for its Galaxy A16 5G. This is the company’s first budget phone to promise six years of OS support. It’s late to join the party, but the One UI 7 is now being deployed to the European Galaxy A16 5G variant, and soon, other regions will follow.

The Galaxy A16 4G, which is also available in Pakistan, has already got the One UI 7 update in Europe. It shouldn’t take long before it’s unlocked in our country. But, coming back to the topic at hand, Samsung has decided to grace the A16 5G variant with Android 15 and the May 2025 security patch.

From what we’ve gathered about the update package, it’s around 3GB in size and comes with the firmware version “A166BXXU3BYEC.” This is a full feature update with an overhauled UI and the latest Android 15 operating system at its core. It even includes the May 2025 security patch that provides safety from 20 new-found vulnerabilities in the system.

Circulating on the web, some screenshots taken on a German Galaxy A16 5G prove that the One UI 7 Update has finally reached Europe. And if you want to see whether this update is available in your region, you can find the “Software Updates” menu in the Settings and tap the blue “Check for Updates” button on your Samsung's latest 5G model.

If you see a Changelog, some firmware details, and a Download and Install button on your screen, you should be able to start the update process. A WiFi connection is recommended to download the contents of the update. One UI 7 brings a stack of new features and a revamped UI.

The UI redesign comes with new icons for the stock Samsung apps and a more customizable Quick-panel. The Notification center and utility toggles have been separated, just like iOS. There are also improved charging animations and a new battery icon on the status bar.

The new volume slider in the quick panel is an implementation borrowed from Apple iOS. The app drawer can be set to a vertical scroll, and there are multiple new widgets for the home screen as part of the overhaul. Galaxy A16 5G is one of the few lucky devices to feature a “Now Bar” that shows live activities on the lock screen. The update has yet to reach more Galaxy devices. Stick around if you want to stay in the loop.
