The Chinese smartphone manufacturer, Itel, has made its presence in the entry-level segment of the Pakistani market. The company has firm roots in other Asian and African regions as well. Itel has just announced its new smartphone A23s in India, and following Itel’s typical release schedule, the handset should not be far from its Pakistani launch.

The Itel A23s is nothing to write home about. It is a basic low-end device for the audience switching from a feature phone to an Android device. The design of the handset brings us a decade back. There are thick top and bottom bezels like old smartphones, and a VGA selfie camera with an LED flash is placed on the forehead.

The display trapped between these bezels is a 5-inch LCD screen with a resolution of 480×854 pixels. There’s a gradient patterned blue paint job on the rear where resides the camera hump. A tiny 2MP primary sensor assisted by an LED flash fills this camera hump. The quad-core Unisoc SC9832E CPU is powering the handset with a mere 2GB/32GB storage configuration.

The A23s will be a 4G handset with Micro SD expansion, Dual-SIM support, Bluetooth 4.2, and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n. A 3,020 mAh battery fuels the device running on the Go Edition of Android 11.

Itel has also included an interesting Social Turbo feature that allows users to record Whatsapp calls, save status, and enter peek mode. There’s also an AI face unlocking mechanism. Looking at the current price of INR 5,299, the Itel A23s could launch for around Rs. 15,000 in Pakistan.
