iPhone 17 Air Battery Exposed in Viral Images; Looks Razor-thin Next to Pro’s Battery

The last couple of days have been eventful with stories popping out everywhere showing the iPhone 17 Air’s battery on camera. Sadly, the previous leak proved to be inaccurate. It was actually the iPhone 17 Pro’s battery, not the Air’s. The new battery photos from a Korean leaker @Yeux1122 seem much more reliable.

The leaker not only showed the iPhone 17 Air’s battery in hand but also gave away its side-by-side image with the 17 Pro’s battery pack. There’s an astounding difference between both their sizes. The Naver blog where we found this leak claims that the power source is only 2.49mm thin.

This battery is almost half the thickness of the reported 5.5mm chassis on the iPhone 17 Air. This is going to be the record-thin smartphone Apple has ever made. For safety, Apple is going to enclose the battery in an L-shaped metal casing, just like the Pro.

We saw some earlier reports stating the iPhone 17 Air’s battery could be 2900mAh, which makes perfect sense at a 2.49mm size. The battery deficit is something iPhone Air users will have to get used to. Though some pushback is expected, as people have some valid concerns about the new iPhone Air model’s longevity.

If the rumors hold, Apple could discontinue the “Plus” model because of its worsening sales year after year. The new iPhone Air will try to take its place in the series, though it doesn’t stand a chance with its 2900mAh battery capacity. It’s nowhere near the size of the iPhone 16 Plus's 4,674mAh cell.

The last device with a sub-3000mAh battery was the iPhone 13 Mini from 2021. But this phone had to power a small 5.4” OLED screen. The iPhone 17 Air is reported to have a nearly 6.9-inch display, which means it will drain the battery even faster.

The only realistic solution to iPhone 17 Air’s battery crisis is the Si/C technology. Traditional Li-ion batteries run out of juice faster, but the newer Silicon-carbon Li-ion packs hold the energy for longer durations. We haven’t seen any leaks so far that mentioned the use of this tech on the iPhone 17 Air. If we hear something along those lines, we'll share the details on our daily news portal. Stay tuned for updates.
