Honor rarely sticks to a regular schedule for its phones. They want to launch the Honor X80 Pro Max next week, but out of the blue, a device from the previous generation has emerged in China. Honor X70 Pro Max debuted today, and this is what it looks like.
This is a device built around a 6.79” AMOLED and a 1.5K resolution. Honor X70 Pro Max follows the general recipe we usually see on the X series. The display looks way more premium than it has any right to be because of the 1.3mm uniform bezel.
The peak brightness is 6000 nits, which is not something you see every day on a smartphone. And the pixels are pushed at a 120Hz refresh rate. The chipset doing all the heavy lifting is a Snapdragon 6 Gen 4, which is apt, because the X80 version coming up next has the 6 Gen 5 SoC.
Anyway, Honor latest X mobile uses the Adreno 810 GPU to handle the GUI and games. There’s at least 8GB of RAM on the device. This is either paired with 256GB storage at base, or it can be upgraded to 512GB by paying extra. The cameras are somewhat ordinary, though.
They’ve put a 50MP main unit on the back. A giant circular ring is there for decoration only. Then comes the 8MP selfie shooter on the display punch hole. You won’t be buying this device for the camera, though. The X70 Pro Max is all about durability and battery.
This is one of the few phones in China that has an 8560mAh battery that will probably last two full days before you have to plug it in. The charging support is fast 90W, so the refills will be snappy. They even got the phone rated for an IP69K water and dustproof certification.
It covers the basics well. X70 Pro Max checks all the right boxes with dual speakers and an infrared port. There’s WiFi 6 and a screen fingerprint reader. NFC can be used on the phone for card-free transactions. Honor X70 Pro Max (8/256GB) base price is CNY 1,999 (~PKR 82,000), which will stretch to CNY 2,399 (~PKR 98,000) for the 8/512GB trim.
