Galaxy A16 5G Appears on Internal Update Servers, Running One UI 9 Test Build

It’s strange to see a low-end Samsung device being beta-tested this early in the development stage. But it’s definitely becoming a norm. Apparently, the Samsung Galaxy A16 was also seen on the Samsung update servers running the latest One UI 9 after the Galaxy S25 series.

The spotter was Tarun Vats. He posted the details on X after he made the discovery. The firmware is the internal One UI 9 test build for the Galaxy A16 5G. They’ll soon move it into the beta testing phase. That’s when the actual users will test the firmware themselves and report back.

A166BXXU8EZF1/A166BOXM8EZF1/A166BXXU8EZF1 are the build versions Vats saw on the server. It seems the firmware is specifically being tested on the European Samsung new 5G models. That’s where those Samsung servers in question are based.

By the way, One UI 9 beta was already announced. But this was only for the Galaxy S25 lineup. They are probably speeding up the firmware development just so lower-tier phones can also enter the beta stages. This will happen sometime later, though, after they are done with the S25.

It’s said that beta One UI 9 is at least a month away from reaching the Galaxy A16. This could be hearsay. They’ll be busy next month prepping for the Galaxy Z Fold series launch. And they don’t want to spoil the One UI 9 before it happens. We assume these devices will be the first ones to run Android 17 One UI 9 by default.

Even if the A16 did reach the beta stage after the Z series launch, not all users will have access to it. It’s a bit of a grind. But users in specific regions can sign up as Samsung members and become beta testers.
