Budget-friendly Vivo Y52s Unveiled with Solid Internals, 90Hz Display, and 5G-powered Chipset

Vivo has recently been refreshing their entry-level Y series. They have already introduced a follow-up to last year’s Y12. Today, Y52s was added to the Vivo Y lineup. If you don’t keep track of Vivo’s confusing catalog of budget phones, the new Y52s succeeds Vivo Y51 that only came out this month.

The Vivo Y52s is yet another wallet-friendly 5G phone in Vivo’s ever-expanding roster of budget 5G models. It features MediaTek Dimensity 720 — one of the cheapest 5G chipsets that MediaTek offers. Vivo S7e and Vivo Y73s have the same processor.

The 128GB of storage is expandable with a standard MicroSD card. 8GB of memory handles the multitasking. Not to mention an onboard ‘liquid cooling’ system for heat management. Plus, the Android10-based FunTouchOS powers the Vivo Y52s (even though the latest Android11-based OriginOS is out). A 5000 mAh battery with 18W fast-charging backs up this hardware.

Vivo Y52s also adopts the familiar ‘big eye’ camera layout and the distinctive AG glasstic aesthetic -- available in the Coral Sea, Monet, and Titanium Gray colors. The USB interface standard is Type-C. And a 3.5mm jack is included. For biometric security, a thumbprint reader doubles as the power button. Overall a nice addition to the Vivo price list.

The primary camera is 48MP with a wide f/1.79 aperture, and the selfie camera is 8MP. An extra 2MP ‘depth’ sensor is present on the back too. Y52s supports up to 10x digital zooming, electronic image stabilization, and 4K video recording. You also get night mode, slo-mo, and time-lapse features.

Out on the front, the screen has a notch to hide the front camera. It’s a 6.58” LCD display that produces a 1080P resolution at responsive 90Hz refresh and 180Hz touch sampling rates. Even though the panel is IPS LCD, Vivo Y52s supports HDR10 for punchier colors and better contrast. It starts from CNY 1898 (~ Rs. 46,500).
