New Vivo Y51 (2020) Launches with a 5000 mAh Fast-Charging Battery and 8GB of Memory

Vivo’s naming scheme (or lack thereof) is perhaps the most inconsistent and confusing to navigate in the industry. The naming antics continue with the newly-introduced Vivo Y51 2020. Not to be confused with the Vivo Y51 from September this year (which itself is another name for the Vivo S1 Pro). Also not to be mistaken for the Y51 that came out in 2015. The newest Y51 2020 is a lower mid-range phone.

More often than not, Vivo’s budget phones use previous-gen chipsets. And Vivo Y51 2020 is no exception. It has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 inside, which came out in early 2019. You’ll find it in the previous Y51 too.

A 5000 mAh battery, with support for 18W fast charging, powers it. For a quick comparison, the similarly-priced POCO X3 has a new Snapdragon 732G, a 6000 mAh battery, and 33W fast charging.

Also, this Y51 2020 downgrades the display from AMOLED to IPS LCD. It’s slightly bigger at 6.58”, produces a 1080P, and has a notch bleeding into it. Flip it over to find the familiar Vivo new model design language — a combination of a boxy camera plate and a sunburst finish. The fingerprint rests on the side, doubling as the power button. It’s more reliable and convenient than the in-display solution its predecessor had.

A 48MP standard camera and an 8MP ultra-wide lens are arranged inside this housing on Vivo Y51 2020. Plus, there’s an extra 2MP macro sensor and a 16MP selfie camera. The image-processing onboard supports night mode on both front and back cameras. And you get audio boosting and electronic image stabilization features.

Vivo Y51 2020 comes in two colors, Titanium Sapphire and Crystal Symphony, and one storage variant, 8GB+128GB. It starts from $255 (~ Rs. 41,000). No word on the global launch timeline for this phone yet.
