iPhone 14 Pro Ditches the Notch for a Hole-punch and Features a 48MP Camera, Apple Analyst Reports

Before Apple's iPhone 13 series debuted, the rumor mill gave us early previews of next year’s iPhone 14. If the leak is anything to go by, Apple is planning on a radical redesign (at least by the brand’s standards.) An Apple analyst now steps up to not only corroborate the leak but add new predictions of his own. Here’s the scoop.

Ming-Chi Kuo, a reliable source of Apple-related tips, notes that Apple is finally ditching the unsightly wedge-shaped notch from the iPhone. The next-gen iPhone 14 series will feature a centered O-hole cutout to house the front camera — like every premium smartphone in the last few seasons.

Following the typical year-on-year Apple upgrade cycle, the hole punch designs will be reserved for the two top-tier Pro iPhones — think the 120Hz ProMotion feature in the iPhone 13 series. The two baseline iPhone editions will stick to the notch aesthetic, at least for another year.

But the Face ID feature isn’t gone in either case. Jon Prosser, who originally leaked the design for iPhone's new model in 2021, reports that the array of Face ID sensors have been moved below the display.

Mr. Kuo further details that the iPhone 14 family will include a new 6.7” model, the same size as the iPhone 13 Pro Max except at a cheaper price point. It starts from under $900 (~ Rs. 152,000.) Speaking of affordable iPhones, Apple also has a new iPhone SE in the works featuring 5G connectivity.

Lastly, all three cameras of the iPhone 13 have 12MP sensors behind them. But the wide camera on the iPhone 14 will use a higher-res 48MP sensor (that will output to 12MP images.)
